It's surprising but sours are anything but predictable. There are so many varieties of wild yeasties I think it's an adventure trying to test them all out. I love a lot of them but some of them require some brewing mastery to pull off a tasty brew. It doesn't always work out. :)

I think you need to have grown up treating pumpkin as a dessert. Our brains were hoping for gravy, crackling and salt. Maybe a salted, pumpkin rauchbier would be the go? :)

Beer Trivia Pursuit, yep, I'd buy it.
Why would Hasbro turn that down? It's a whole new demographic to mine.

BTW: New to your vids, keep up the good work lads.

Anyone can cook with beer. Even Steve. Once you get over the fact that you’re not drinking it, eating beer laden food product is the 2nd best way to enjoy beery goodness. Here’s proof thanks to the great team at Hart’s Pub in Sydney....

Ummm no...sorry guys...Holgate's Mt Macedon is just an American Pacific North-West inspired Pale Ale...not an American IPA! Actually a big difference there, especially with the malt driven profile. Sorry to be picky...but you deserve a slap for that. :-P

Grab a chance to taste the 4 Pines at the Beer Breakfast at Beer Deluxe in Melbourne on May 21. It will be great to see the guys from Beermen.tv in action again after a great event last year.
I can highly recommend Mountain Goat beers, particularly the Steam Ale and Hightail Ale, both are absolute crackers and exemplify the great craft beers now coming out of regional Victoria.
Keep up the good work guys.

I'm not getting into an argument but. Yes its brewed some where else. What else are they doing? Currently commissioning a 35HL DME brewery with 105HL fermentation vessels in McLaren Vale with an investment of over $1m. Production will commence in May. Which has been under construction for some time. So it won't be brewed some where else for ever, nor do they intend it to.

Hi. We're aware the beer is currently brewed at AIB here in NSW. Unlike some contract brews though they do actually have a brewer who spends time at the facility. They're still very much a South Australian company so although we should have mentioned this in the episode we're happy not to be too critical. It IS a nice beer.

Thanks for challenging this though. You've got a valid point regardless!

Tricked like most. It isn't from McLaren Vale, they want you to think that as that is the marketing ploy to sell the beer.

It's UV radiation that will slowly cause degradation in the beer, so even a lonely bottle or six-pack sitting in a shelf in a bottle shop somewhere can be susceptible. I'm always careful with how I store my beer but the same can't be said for those that have handled it before it reaches me. Clear glass doesn't help the matter at all! So at least the majority of brewers are doing their bit to help prevent unnecessary damage by using the coloured glass to filter out the frequencies of light that cause the damage. Cheers to better, undamaged beer & thanks for watching! :)

Oh yes...I believe there really needs to be a national standardisation of beer glass sizes! Let's get RID of all stupid various sizes for draught beer...PLEASE! I want to be able to go anywhere in Australia and just ask for a "pot" or a "pint". POT & PINT is all we need, people! :-P

That said...the various specialty glasses used for creaft beer (tulip stem glass, snifters and all that) are important for the more interesting high end beers.

If a brewer's personality is reflected in a beer's flavour and texture then perhaps the results are no surprise given the origin.

BTW, don't knock the biltong - awesome with a beer.

I haven't tried any South African beers but I will head out this weekend in search of a few cans just to see how bad they really are.

Most Aussies wouldn't drink Fosters but in the UK it is one of the most popular beers on the market. Having had a few can of this recently I think supermarkets and bottle shops should be giving out the same warnings.

Don't expect a good beer from a country where biltong jerky and salty liquorice are popular snacks.
I'll try anything once but still have nightmares about the taste of those things.
Trust the barkeep next time dudes. As for me, I'm sticking to good ole US of A craftbeer and pretzels.

A South African mate came around the other weekend with a 6 pack of Carling Black label spouting its virtues of being the most popular beer sold in South Africa. First one was partly warm so I decided to give it a 2nd chance with a colder stubby after the first was cold crisp but seemed to have a slightly out of place sweet corn twang. Needless to say i won't be seeking it out to drink again!

Episode 44 – You brew doo doo? (BeermenTV)...

You put WHAT? In WHERE? We’re all for beer experimentation and Mikkeller’s Beer Geek Brunch weasel edition is certainly that. It has something in it that you’d normally expect would belong in a kitty tray. We’ll try anything once!...

Use the recipe from here http://license-to-grill.blogspot.com/2008/08/international-beer-day.html
to do a dry rub and a marinade injection into the chicken as well as cooking on the can.
The result is the most tender and tasty chicken you'll ever have.

We love cans but they have a massive image problem. This could have something to do with the types of beer commonly found in a can but for many reasons, the better beer world is opening its eyes to cans as a superior vessel....

Firecracker night? Is that in reference to things going boom in the sky or a night of eating the peanut butter, MJ & cracker sandwiches? The first would be a sulfer taste/smell which is way off the second may be a abundance of hops in the beer.

I dig the show, guys.

I completely agree that the common pub fodder is utter swill, however, you might have pointed out cheap beers use adjuncts like rice that cause that thin/watery mouth feel and that rob the brew of flavours.

Would love more in the way of detail on types of malts, hops, water, yeast, and adjuncts used. Brewing techniques are bloody interesting, too.

Love the fun nature of the show and look forward to you guys taking it to the next level.

We totally agree! It certainly was a beer that could have a place with the right food if you're a chili lover but on its own it can do a lot of damage to unsuspecting tastebuds.
Thanks for the tip on the Rauchbier - we'll look it up!

Gents,
having just been to the Sunshine Coast Brewery I must say I enjoyed your reactions. After having a chat with Greg and taking home some of his Chilli Beer to try (without sampling first) I too was taken aback by the heat generated from an innocent enough bottle. Its certainly not easy drinking but would be good for a genuine chilli lover and does have an extreme coolness factor.
I shared 2 bottles of it with my peers at a beer tasting I organised this weekend past and watching the reactions was priceless!

Please try to include the Sunshine Coast Rauch Bier in a show at some point as it is certainly an example of style worth tasting.

Cheers to better beer.

having just been to the Sunshine Coast Brewery I must say I enjoyed your reactions. After having a chat with Greg and taking home some of his Chilli Beer to try (without sampling first) I too was taken aback by the heat generated from an innocent enough bottle. Its certainly not easy drinking but would be good for a genuine chilli lover and does have an extreme coolness factor.

Too many brewers think all they have to do is (over)load the hops and it's suddenly a great beer; I don't care how much more it costs you to brew with extra hops—if you blow out every other note with blasts of hoppiness, I think you might as well be drinking paint thinner.

I'm with you there, guys! Since beer is just so essential to a good sports watching session or for a long day of enjoying good music at a festival...this is a far too common predicament...with the beer choices pretty much always being appalling! So my fallback solution is to at least try and stick with the Aussie product. If I have to drink cr@p beer (for the sake of tradition and enjoyment...maybe?)...my answer is to at least go with the Australian owned beer...where the brewer has an Aussie parent company. So thank goodness Fosters and Coopers still have their Australian foundation.

Also, having Fosters as the strongest force in Victorian sports events...now days they are starting to push a bit of the Matilda Bay range into events. So...it's a start, which will hopefully create a change in trends...and a demand for real microbrews to grow. Hopefully.

We’ve all been there before. You’re at your favourite sporting event and just as you’re about to partake of some tasty brewed beverages, you spot the choices available – and it’s not good. It’s time for change!...

Now that was fun! Thank you Damien for being a test subject. I can still kick your bum on handeling the hops but you're a good sport. You may win, though, if we test (girly) fruit beers.

Cool, didn't realise that beermen.tv episodes were iPhone compatible. I'd go for the Sol personally.

My sentiments exactly. Saying that a "low carb" beer is brewed with out compromise is ludicrous! 99.9% of said "low carb" beers are brewed with adjuncts and extracts -- which essentially does not qualify them as "true" beers.

Here is my recipe for a low carb beer:

*10 ounces soda water
*2 ounces vodka
*1 drop of corn extract
*1 drop of wheat extract
*1 drop of rice extract
*1 drop of stale hop extract

Stir. Serve with a lime.

The episode was rather entertaining! Cheers, Beer Men :)

Episode 19 Mexicans (beermen.tv)...

Often a much maligned category of beer, the easy drinking Mexican-style beers and their characteristic yellow hue are exactly that – easy drinking. In this episode of Beermen.TV we’re looking for the better beer amongst three of a kind....
