Episode 24 – Fire in the hole
Published: April 9, 2010
Some people seek great enjoyment from using chilli as a weapon to blast their tastebuds into a world of pain. You’d normally think this would be in the food they eat. Surely no one would think to add chilli to beer. Would they?

Gents,
having just been to the Sunshine Coast Brewery I must say I enjoyed your reactions. After having a chat with Greg and taking home some of his Chilli Beer to try (without sampling first) I too was taken aback by the heat generated from an innocent enough bottle. Its certainly not easy drinking but would be good for a genuine chilli lover and does have an extreme coolness factor.
I shared 2 bottles of it with my peers at a beer tasting I organised this weekend past and watching the reactions was priceless!
Please try to include the Sunshine Coast Rauch Bier in a show at some point as it is certainly an example of style worth tasting.
Cheers to better beer.
Ian
We totally agree! It certainly was a beer that could have a place with the right food if you’re a chili lover but on its own it can do a lot of damage to unsuspecting tastebuds.
Thanks for the tip on the Rauchbier – we’ll look it up!
